How long in between Mastiff heat cycles is normal?

I have a 2 yr old English Mastiff and her heat cycle is every 4 months. Should I be concerned with breeding?

Yes, you should be very concerned about breeding. If you aren’t familiar enough with Mastiffs to know about when their heat cycles normally occur, and you don’t have a mentor you can talk to about this, then this dog should NEVER EVER be bred.

The world doesn’t need more pets being bred, not when 2,000,000+ of them are killed each year in shelters. Fix your 8itch and get it over with. She is not breeding quality and there is nothing wrong with that.

Thats often but not uncommon. My 6yr old female mastiff had one only once a year. But please get her spayed. Mastiffs are breed thats PLAGUED with genetic disease. And unless you plan on doing the right testing…ie OFA hips/elbows, cardiac, CERF, etc. then she shouldnt be bred. Not trying to sound rude…I know you didnt mention breeding her..just being on the safe side. Your girl is the perfect age to get spayed :)

It’s not abnormal. They vary. You should be concerned about breeding if you don’t have any working dog or conformation titles, if your dog does not have full AKC registration, or if you have not done her OFA certifications yet. Mastiffs need OFA clearances on the heart- (not an ascultation, either- an echo), hips, elbows, thyroid, and CERF clearance on the eyes before breeding can even be considered.
